Unfortunately there are no real free places to check on coins or world paper money. The silver certificate value depends on what series it is and what grade it is in. Most worn ones from series 1935 and up to 1957 have little value if any, other than a dollar. The star notes command a premium as well as uncircluated ones. How will the Presidential $1 Coins impact the economy?
The main benefit is that coins wear out more slowly than paper money. However, this assumes that people will want to carry those coins around. It is not clear to me that they will. I guess it depends on how heavy they are, and how often shops will use them when giving change for larger-denomination currency ($5, $10, etc.)....
